On LinkedIn, the professional networking site, Michael Dell summarises his life's work in just one sentence: \u201cI started Dell in 1984 with $1000 in my freshman dorm room at the University of Texas.\u201d That boldness has paid off: with wealth estimated at almost USDbn 276, the 61-year-old currently occupies fourth sport in the \u201cForbes Realtime Billionaires List\u201d. It was a massive rally in Dell\u2019s share price that propelled him to this top position, the market capitalisation of the IT group having ballooned by 350% just since the turn of the year. That puts Dell in the top 5 on the performance ranking for the S&P 500 Index. The rally is being driven by the strong demand for servers. These components made by the group are fuelling the development and expansion of artificial intelligence (AI). In the wake of the boom, Dell has already raised its forecast twice in the current financial year. The founder and boss thus seems, once again, to have seen the way the wind is blowing. Over the last four decades, Michael Dell has steered his group through various crises \u2013 such as the collapse of the PC market \u2013 by taking bold steps to transform the business.<\/p>\n\n

Special quality features<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s only logical then, that Dell is among the members of the Swissquote Visionary Founders Index. This new themed investment capitalises on the charisma of visionary entrepreneurs. To do so, it selects shares in groups from a global pool in which the founder plays an active role at the top. The latest addition to Swissquote\u2019s Themes Trading platform arose from a competition. This year the online bank organised the \u201cSwissquote Campus Challenge\u201d for a second time. Seventy students submitted their investment ideas and strategies, with Helio Chaplin from the University of Lausanne ultimately carrying the day with his \u201cVisionary Founders\u201d concept. His strategy focuses specifically on the quality features of the founder-led companies. These include long-term strategic visions as well as a strong alignment of interests with shareholders and entrepreneurial decision-making processes. Academic studies and experience in the field indicate that in the long term companies led by their founders can realise above-average returns for their shareholders.<\/p>\n\n\n

Active management, direct access<\/h3>\n

To be considered for inclusion, a share must first also meet quantitative criteria. Alongside a market capitalisation of at least CHFmn 100, this includes a daily trading volume of around CHF 100,000. As index sponsor, Swissquote is responsible for the active management and regular reweighting of the strategy. Investors can add the index to their portfolio with a tracker certificate from Leonteq. The structured product tracks the thematic investment without any term limit and can be traded continuously on the SIX Swiss Exchange. Investors also benefit from the dividends issued by the companies included in the index, with the payouts being reinvested net. As well as a management fee of 0.40% p.a., there is also a charge for the calculation agent (0.20% p.a.). As soon as the index is adjusted, a transaction fee of 0.10% of the respective nominal volume is also levied.<\/p>\n\n

AI, luxury goods and much more<\/h3>\n

In return, investors get a diversified exposure to leading companies from right around the world. In addition to Michael Dell, other prominent founders and managers have also made it into the selection with their companies. Jensen Huang (Nvidia) and Larry Ellison (Oracle) are likewise riding the AI wave. Meanwhile, the Frenchman Bernard Arnault has built up LVMH, the world\u2019s largest luxury empire, and led it to success. The Swissquote Visionary Founders Index contains some less well-known companies too, however. Take Argenx, for example: the Belgian-Dutch biotech firm develops pioneering antibody therapies for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. Its current CEO, Tim Van Hauwermeiren, founded the company with two partners in 2008. The concept has also taken off in the Far East, with Fast Retailing among the index members from Japan. The clothing and retail group is known worldwide for its Uniqlo brand. At the top of the holding company, which is worth around CHFbn 112, is Tadashi Yanai. The company was founded by his father in 1949 as a men\u2019s fashion store. Yanai is the second-richest man in Japan, but cannot compare with Michael Dell. Forbes estimates his current wealth at nearly USDbn 60.9, which puts him in 31st place on the global billionaires\u2019 ranking.<\/p>\n\n\n
